Caller Posing as City Official in New Scam

That’s not the City on the line.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, a new scam call is targeting local businesses, with someone calling and pretending to be from the City of Amarillo. In the call made to a local business owner, the caller asked for personal information and a credit card number. The caller claimed the City does not have a local number for use and called from 682-862-6777.

APD says the City and Amarillo Police will not ask for personal information or credit card numbers on the phone. You are advised to be on the lookout for this scam and to remain vigilant about releasing your personal information.
