Senator Ted Cruz is backing his Texas counterpart ahead of the 2020 elections.
This week, Senator Ted Cruz announced his support for Senator John Cornyn’s 2020 reelection bid. Cruz, who is coming off of his successful re-election campaign against Beto O’Rourke, is joining forces with Cornyn early in the cycle, before any primary candidates have announced their intentions to challenge the senior U.S. Senator.
“John and I have made a very strong team,” Cruz said in a campaign video. “And I hope that we can keep working together because together we can help uphold the Constitution.”
So far, Cornyn has drawn one challenger in independent candidate Dwayne Stovall. No Democrats have signed on to challenge the Senator yet and FEC filings show no Libertarian candidates with active committees challenging Cornyn.
The election for this seat will be held in November 2020, with primaries for Republicans and Democrats slated in March.
