Amarillo Independent School District trustee John Betancourt was re-elected unanimously over the weekend to his spot on the board of directors for the Mexican American School Boards Association.
Betancourt, who serves as the director for region 5A of the organization was re-elected unopposed at the organization's convention. Betancourt had previously been serving as a member of the organization's 15-member board, which includes representatives from school districts across the state.
According to the organization's website, the Mexican American School Boards Association aims to be a "champion for equity, diversity and inclusion, actively advocating on the issues that most poignantly affect the Hispanic students and English Language Learners in our Texas public schools."
