Police Investigate Scam Involving Group Claiming Ties to Downtown Charity

Amarillo Police are investigating a scam they say is targeting Amarillo residents.

According to the Amarillo Police Department, officers are currently investigating a scam in which a group of people are reportedly knocking on doors and attempting to sell magazines. The person or persons knocking on the doors claim to be with the Downtown Women's Center. The persons also tell those who they contact that they are required to sell the magazines in order to keep residency at the center.

Officials from the Downtown Women's Center told police that the group is not part of their organization, as they do not solicit money and do not require their residents to sell anything to stay in a DWC facility.
