Price Targeted on Pro-Life Issues in House Race

Representative Four Price (R-Amarillo) is being targeted by a hard-hitting pro-life political action committee ahead of his squaring off with Fritch city manager Drew Brassfield on March 6th.

Price, an Amarillo attorney and incumbent State Representative, was the target of a mailing released this week by Texas Right to Life. The influential pro-life group targeted Price in the mailer, discussing his vote against an amendment offered by Representative Matt Schaefer in 2017 that would have closed the loophole allowing late-term abortions based upon disability. Price later stated that he meant to vote for the amendment in the House journal but voted against the amendment during House proceedings.

In the letter addressed to District 87 Republican voters, the pro-life group tells Amarilloans that Price's vote has one of two meanings.

"This has one of two possible implications: Either Price voted to kill the amendment as a favor to the House leadership, then made his journal statement to cover his tracks; or he truly made such a casual mistake on such an important vote," Texas Right to Life wrote to local voters. "Either way, Four Price failed to protect Life, as journal statements regarding intentions do not count as votes."

However, in his campaign literature, Price and his campaign have disputed that his a pro-choice legislator and have targeted pro-life voters with various ads. In an ad posted to Facebook on Wednesday, Price included words of support from Jim and Josette Cramer. In the ad's caption, Price said, "I believe in the sanctity of life...."

Price's opponent, Drew Brassfield has been endorsed by Texas Right to Life in the race for the District 87 House seat.

Voters will decide the race between Price and Brassfield in the March 6th Republican primary race. The winner of the nomination will likely become the next state representative, as no third-party candidates or Democrats have filed to run.
