Texan Tillerson to Leave Trump Administration

A high-ranking Texan has been ousted from President Donald Trump's administration, the President wrote on Twitter this week.

On Tuesday, President Trump announced that Rex Tillerson, the incumbent United States Secretary of State, had been removed from office. In addition, Trump announced that current Central Intelligence Agency director Mike Pompeo would be nominated to take Tillerson's job and Gina Haspel, an assitant director for the CIA, would be nominated to take Pompeo's place and become the first woman to lead the agency.

Tillerson told reporters on Tuesday that he had received a call from President Trump that afternoon and would be turning over all department functions to Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan.

"What is most important is to ensure an orderly and smooth transition during a time that the country continues to face significant policy and national security challenges," Tillerson said on Tuesday.

Tillerson, a native of Wichita Falls, joined President Trump's administration in 2017. Prior to the role as Secretary of State, Tillerson was the chief executive officer of ExxonMobil.
