Lucero to Become First Hispanic District Chief in Amarillo History

Jaime Lucero is set to become the first hispanic district chief in the history of the Amarillo Fire Department.

AFD officials announced on Wednesday that Lucero will be promoted from the rank of captain to district chief on Wednesday night. The promotion tonight will make Lucero the first Hispanic person to ever be promoted to a chief position in Amarillo history.

Lucero responded to the promotion in a statement provided by the Amarillo Fire Department, saying, “The tests are highly competitive and I put in a lot of long hours studying for this promotion. But, it was not only my sacrifice, but my family’s as well.

The new district chief also said his faith in God has played an important part in the promotion.

They supported me and I couldn’t have done it without their help and prayers.”  He also stated: “I am a Christian and I believe God has blessed me and put me in this position for a purpose.”
