Randall County's Farren Named AC Distinguished Alum

Randall County criminal district attorney James Farren has been named the 2018 Amarillo College Distinguished Alumnus.

Amarillo College announced this week that Farren, the outgoing criminal D.A. for Randall County, had been selected for the honor. Farren will be presented as the honoree, while speaking at the Amarillo College convocation at the Amarillo Civic Center on Sunday, April 15th.

Farren is a 1966 graduate of Tascosa High School. Farren was a non-traditional student when he enrolled at Amarillo College, serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and as an officer for the Canyon Police Department prior to enrolling at the school. Farren then graduated from Texas Tech University in 1982, and obtained his law degree in 1984.

In a release from Amarillo College, Farren said that he originally did not care about academics when he enrolled at Amarillo College but came to see new horizons at the school.

“I have to admit that I was more interested in athletics than academics when I was in high school,” Farren said in a statement. “I did just enough to get by. But at AC I finally learned how to schedule time to study, and I learned how to think critically."
