Governor Greg Abbott held a meeting this week that was called "historic" by pundits.
This week, Abbott traveled to New Delhi, India to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two officials reportedly discussed mutual issues for India and Texas, including economics, healthcare, defense and energy. The meeting also marked the first time that Prime Minister Modi has met with a United States Governor.
Following the meeting, Abbott said that he was honored to discuss the "meaningful" relationship between India and Texas.
"I am extremely grateful to Prime Minister Modi for welcoming me to his country and for the opportunity to discuss the meaningful relationship between Texas and India," Abbott said. "While Texas and India have long maintained an important economic relationship, this trip has also highlighted our commonly shared values of family, faith, community and hard work. These are the bonds that we will continue to build on, and I look forward to growing this partnership even more after this successful trip."
Modi is the 16th and current Prime Minister of India.
