City Council to Talk MPEV, Ethics, Red Light Cameras

Members of the Amarillo City Council has a busy agenda set for its meeting on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, April 3rd, the Amarillo City Council will discuss multiple issues during its work session with a relatively slim agenda set for its regular meeting. During the work session, Councilmembers will discuss the Code of Ethics policy, railroad crossing projects and proposed solid waste amendments. Councilmembers sitting on other various boards will also give presentations about the ongoing actions within those boards.

During the regular meeting, Councilmembers will vote on whether to approve the establishment of seven new locations for red light cameras in Amarillo. If approved, the red light cameras will be placed at the following intersections:

  • Taylor & 10th

  • Grand & I-40

  • Buchanan & 3rd

  • Grand & I-40

  • Pierce & Amarillo Blvd

  • Bell & Plains

  • Georgia & 26th

At the same time, Councilmembers will vote on whether to remove four red light cameras in Amarillo. The potentially removed locations are:

  • Coulter & Elmhurst (2 Cameras)

  • Pierce & 11th

  • Amarillo Blvd & Fillmore

Following that vote, Councilmembers will consider purchasing new bullet proof vests for police officers and award a professional services contract for traffic engineering. City of Amarillo Facilities & Special Project Administrator Jerry Danforth will then give Councilmembers a presentation over the ongoing construction of the downtown baseball stadium. Unless challenged in a district court, the MPEV is projected by City of Amarillo officials to open in downtown Amarillo by spring of next year.

The Amarillo City Council will meet on Tuesday, April 3rd in the Council Chambers of Amarillo City Hall (509 Southeast 7th Avenue). A work session will begin at 2pm, followed by a regular meeting at 5pm. No formal action will be taken at the work session.
