Thornberry Says U.S. Should Consider Syrian Airstrikes

Congressman Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon) told Fox News this week that he believes the United States should consider a round of airstrikes against Syria.

According to Politico, Thornberry, who serves as chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, said that the U.S. should consider strikes against Syria in a collaborate effort with allies to punish Syrian President Bashar al-Assad following a wave of poison attacks in Syria.

“We should do so with those allies to make it an international condemnation of chemical weapons,” Thornberry said. “It is really important for our allies like Britain and France to stand with us.”

Thornberry also told CNN this week that the United States should not cease operations in Syria, stating that it would create a vaccum that would aid terrorist organizations.

"I think the notion that we would leave Syria was a mistake because we haven't finished destroying ISIS and because people like Iran and Russia see a vacuum created when the US leaves into which they will run," Thornberry said.

Thornberry made the comments after President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter that there would be a "big price to pay" for the chemical attacks.
