City Council to Spend $1.7 Million Renovating Parking Lot

Amarillo's City Council has a number of items on the agenda for Tuesday's meeting, including spending $1.7 million to renovate a municipally owned parking lot in downtown Amarillo.

On Tuesday, the City Council will vote on a number of expenses in a consent agenda, including approving the expenditure of $1,764,097 to renovate a parking lot. The parking lot services the Amarillo Police Department will be funded by General Obligation Bonds, which were approved by voters in 2016. City Councilmembers will also vote to approve spending about $1.7 million on street projects and $1.18 million for industrial mowers and equipment. The equipment, if approved, will be used at the City owned golf complexes in Amarillo.

Also, during the meeting, Councilmembers will convene in executive session to discuss possible tax incentives for the Santa Fe Depot property located in downtown Amarillo. As of the most recent Potter Randall Appraisal District search for the property, the Santa Fe Depot is still municipally owned. Voters turned down debt for improvement projects at the Santa Fe Depot in 2016, and it has been debated what the future of the building will be.

The Amarillo City Council will meet on Tuesday, May 15th in the Council Chambers of Amarillo City Hall (509 Southeast 7th Avenue). The meeting will begin at 5pm, following a 4:30pm work session.
