City Council to Renovate Parking Lot, Implement Paid Parking

City Councilmembers will consider approving a $1.42 million expenditure on Tuesday to expand a parking lot for local police.

According to an agenda posted to Amarillo.gov, Councilmembers will consider making the expenditure to expand and renovate a parking lot for the Amarillo Police Department. The parking lot is located at 202 South Fillmore. According to a memo from City staff, this project will be funded by bond money and will be completed by Panhandle Steel Building, Inc.

Also, on Tuesday, Councilmembers will pass and ordinance mandating parking for a fee in the Central Business District. Fees will run about a dollar an hour, with certain license plates excluded from the charging. There will be no parking enforcement during City of Amarillo holidays. Councilmembers will also approve a valet regulation ordinance, setting minimum standards and fees for valet company operators.

The Amarillo City Council will meet on Tuesday, October 23rd in the Council Chambers of Amarillo City Hall (509 Southeast 7th Avenue). The meeting will begin at 1PM, followed by a noon public comment hearing.
