City Council to Vote on Health Fees, Increasing Vaccine Costs

The Amarillo City Council is considering adopting a new fee schedule for health services on Tuesday, which could include increased fees for vaccines.

According to agenda posted to Amarillo.gov, the Amarillo City Council is considering voting on Tuesday to adopt a new fee schedule for services at the health department. The new schedule will accommodate new services, according to a memo to City Councilmembers. Under the new fee schedule, vaccines will run $14.85 each with a cost not to exceed $30 for both adults and children. This is an increase over the current amount listed on Amarillo.gov, which has vaccine costs listed at $10 each. The current rule will also remain under the new fee schedule, ensuring that no person will be denied a vaccine for inability to pay.

However, residents should not expect fee increases for other services such as sexually transmitted disease testing and skin testing.

In addition, several new services, such as pregnancy testing and sports physicals, will be available through the City of Amarillo Public Health.

Also, during the meeting, Councilmembers will receive an update on ballpark construction and will approve a bank depository contract with Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

The Amarillo City Council will meet on Tuesday, May 22nd in the Council Chambers of Amarillo City Hall (509 Southeast 7th Avenue). The meeting will begin at 5pm.
