Former Texas Republican Party chairman Tom Mechler is backing Josh Winegarner for Congress.
Mechler, an Amarillo-based Republican politician, announced his endorsement of Winegarner in a statement released this week. Mechler said he is backing Winegarner to replace outgoing U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon) because Winegarner is “honest.”
“If you want an honest man who will do exactly what he says he will do, you will want Josh Winegarner,” Mechler said. “Conservative, hardworking and honest. We can trust Josh.”
Mechler led the Texas Republican Party from 2015 through 2017, being succeeded in the role by James Dickey.
Winegarner will face Ronny Jackson in the July 14 Republican runoff for U.S. House of Representatives, District 13.
