Amarillo Police Say Multiple Scams Ongoing

The Amarillo Police Department is warning residents about several ongoing scams in the area.

According to APD, residents in the area are being scammed in a variety of ways. Officials say scam callers have been claiming to be with the Internal Revenue Service, Xcel Energy and law enforcement agencies. Officials also say that the grandparent scam, in which the caller poses as a grandparent of the person receiving a call and claims to need money.

Officials are asking that residents exercise caution if they receive such a call. If you have been the victim of a scam, you can file a report on amapolice.org. If you have not been the victim of such a report, there is no reason to call APD, authorities say.
