Amarillo Vet Clinic Announces Opposition to Proposed Pet Policies

A local veterinary clinic has announced that it will be opposing any of the currently proposed ordinances that would change animal laws in Amarillo.

Hope Veterinary Clinic announced on social media this week that it is opposing proposed ordinances to change vet laws in Amarillo. Specifically, owners David and Sarah Faulkner published on Facebook that the clinic will not comply with proposed ordinances that would require veterinarians to notify the City of Amarillo of unlicensed litters.

"We do not support the proposed Ordinance," Sarah Faulkner said on Facebook. "It smacks of a discrimination lawsuit and is entirely unenforceable. This clinic will not be part of any plan [Animal Management & Welfare director] Dick Havens may propose that would include veterinary clinics to report unlicensed litters nor will we ask to see paperwork pertaining to licensed litters if our City does lose its mind and adopt the proposal."

Instead of the ordinances relating to notifying the City of Amarillo of unlicensed litters, the shelter instead said that it supports "education" and a "low-cost" clinic for spaying and neutering.

As of Wednesday, Faulkner was unavailable for comment at the vet clinic, according to staff.
