Canyon 'Weed Cops' Policing Neighborhoods

City of Canyon personnel are on the beat, working to ensure grass and weeds are cut.

According to the City of Canyon's Blog, officials from Canyon's Planning and Development Department are currently on the hunt for uncut grass and tall weeds. Described as "weed cops" in a post by director of Planning and Development Danny Cornelius, officials will be patrolling neighborhoods for grass and weeds that are over 12 inches tall.

"The requirements help minimize fire risk as the vegetation dries out," Cornelius wrote. "Also, uncontrolled vegetation provides a perfect environment for disease-carrying insects like mosquitoes. Maintenance helps ensure that these unwanted pests are kept to a minimum. It’s a good time to remind everyone to remove any standing water, also a great breeding ground for mosquitoes."

City officials say that personnel will be on the hunt for high grass and weeds and that residents will be billed $100 plus administrative costs for any property that requires mowing by a City of Canyon contractor.
