Sunday Morning Wreck on Amarillo Boulevard Leaves One Dead

A passenger in a wreck that took place on Sunday morning has died as a result of her injuries, Amarillo Police are reporting.

According to APD, officers were dispatched at 7:44am on Sunday to a wreck at East Amarillo Boulevard and North Taylor. A black 2005 Chevrolet truck had been westbound on Amarillo Boulevard and reportedly ran a red light, striking a 2010 Dodge Caliber. The Dodge, driven by a 65-year-old male, had been southbound on North Taylor.

The driver and the passenger in the Dodge were taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officers say the driver of the Chevy fled on foot, but was located at a residents in the 1000 block of North Garfield. Brian Valdespino, 30, was taken into custody and treated for his injuries. He has been booked into the Potter County Detention Center on two counts of Accident Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

On Monday, officials announced that the passenger from the 2010 Dodge, Yessica Montalvo, 43, died from her injuries. The 65-year-old driver of the Dodge is still suffering from life-threatening injuries.

This accident is under investigation by the Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Squad.
