One Dead Following Wreck on 34th Avenue

The Amarillo Police Department says that one person has died following a wreck on Southwest 34th Avenue.

According to APD, officers were dispatched to the 8100 block of Southwest 34th Avenue on a vehicle wreck earlier this week. Officers say that a 2001 Dodge pickup had been eastbound on 34th Avenue and the driver lost control and struck a tree. The vehicle's driver, Nicholas Mergele Nolley, 27, was extracted from the Dodge and was transported to an Amarillo hospital with life-threatening injuries. The vehicle's passenger, Shelby Danielle Clark, 20, died at the scene as a result of her injuries.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the collision.

An autopsy has been ordered. This incident is under investigation by the Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit.
