Lubbock Police Video Goes Viral, Sparks Response from Mayor

A viral video of a Lubbock Police Department officer falling down on the sidewalk after being soaked with squirt guns has gone viral.

According to information from Everything Lubbock, a video has gone viral of a Lubbock police officer falling on the sidewalk. The 13-second video, which has achieved more than 4.5 million views on Facebook, shows a group of people squirting the officer with water guns before she begins chasing a man, eventually falling on the sidewalk.

Police reports state that officers were told that a water gun and balloon fight was taking place in a Lubbock neighborhood, with participants blocking traffic. Two officers who were at the scene reported damaged equipment from the water and the officer not shown on the video reported that a plastic trash can was thrown at him.

Following the publication of the video, the Lubbock Professional Police Association issued a statement, condemning those who were spraying water in the video, and reaffirmed its support for the officers.

"This was not the innocent fun of children but a blatant and intentional disregard of the law and requests to comply with the law," officials said in the statement.

Mayor Dan Pope also weighed in on the video, stating that he supports the officers shown in the now-viral recording, according to Everything Lubbock.

"I fully support our Lubbock Police Department, and I commend the police officers who responded to the incident," Pope said. "These officers demonstrated a calm and respectful approach in their efforts to resolve the situation. The restraint they showed is notable."
