An online petition demanding the establishment of a no-kill animal shelter in Amarillo has resurfaced, following news that City of Amarillo officials euthanized a mother dog that was in labor.
This weekend, a petition from 2015 resurfaced on social media, calling for the creation of a no-kill animal shelter in Amarillo. The petition was originally launched after it was revealed that a series of possible ethical violations were taking place at Amarillo Animal Control. Officials then renamed and reorganized the structure of the animal services department in Amarillo, which led to most calls for a no-kill shelter to go quiet. However, revelations from last week have caused a new surge in interest for the no-kill shelter in Amarillo.
As of Monday afternoon, the Change.org petition is up to 9,671 signatures, with many signatures coming over the weekend.
