Congressman Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon) voted for a resolution this week expressing support for officers and personnel performing duties for the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
On Wednesday, Thornberry joined a majority of House members in voting for a resolution expressing support for ICE personnel and officers. The resolution, which was presented by Louisiana Republican Clay Higgins, expressed support for ICE officers and stated calls to abolish the agency are a "insult to these heroic law enforcement officers who make sacrifices every day to secure our borders, enforce our laws, and protect our safety and security."
The resolution received approval on a 244-35 margin. Meanwhile, 133 members answered "present" instead of voting for or against the resolution and 16 members were not in the chamber for the vote. Every present Republican, with the exception of one member, voted for the resolution. Congressman Justin Amash (R-Michigan) was the only Republican vote against the item and eight Republican members were not in the chamber at the time of the vote.
Another notable vote on the resolution was made by Beto O'Rourke, an El Paso Democrat who is currently running against Ted Cruz in November's election for one of Texas' U.S. Senate seats. O'Rourke was one of 34 Democrats who voted against the resolution.
