Thornberry Votes to Pass Medical Expenses Bill

Congressman Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon) voted this week to pass a bill that would classify certain medications as medical expenses.

According to information from the U.S. House of Representatives, Thornberry voted on Wednesday to approve HR 6199, the Restoring Access to Medication Act. The bill, if passed, would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to consider "menstrual care products" as medical expenses. A summary of the bill states the issue would consider over-the-counter products fitting this description as "qualified medical expenses."

The bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives in a 277-142 vote. 231 Republicans and 46 Democrats voted to approve the issue's passage, while 1 Republican and 141 Democrats voted against the measure.

Among Democrats voting for the bill was Beto O'Rourke. O'Rourke, an El Paso Democrat, is the Democratic nominee for one of Texas' U.S. Senate seats in the November election.
