Republican Michael Cloud is headed to the United States House of Representatives.
On Saturday, Cloud, a Republican activist, won the special election to fulfill the remainder of Blake Farenthold's term in the U.S. House. Farenthold represented the 27th Congressional District before resigning earlier this year.
With unofficial results reporting, Cloud led Democrat Eric Holguin, 55 percent to 32 percent. Seven other candidates split the remaining percentage points.
Cloud is expected to assume office in the coming weeks. Cloud and Holguin are also their respective parties' nominees for the general election and will meet again, along with Libertarian Daniel Tinus, in Novembet.
