Democrat Wins Special Election for El Paso House Seat

In El Paso last night, a Democrat claimed a seat in the Texas House of Representatives.

On Tuesday night, El Paso voters sent college regent Art Fierro to the Texas House to replace Democrat Joe Pickett. Fierro won his contest with 53 percent of the vote. Democrat Michael Noe got 27 percent and Republican Hans Sassenfeld rounded out the field with 20 percent of the vote.

Fierro is expected to remain in the Texas House through 2021.

Meanwhile, in Houston, voters sent two Democrats to a runoff for a vacant House seat. Christina Morales and Melissa Noriega will face off in an upcoming runoff, with several Democrats, a Republican, and a Libertarian candidate failing to make the cut.
