This weekend was a hot one in Amarillo, but it didn't come close to breaking a record for the hottest temperature ever set in the Lone Star State.
On Thursday and Friday, Amarillo thermometers topped out at 105 degrees in the heart of Amarillo. Saturday also included skyrocketing temperatures, with heat reaching a scorching 104 degrees. However, this was still not enough to bust the Lone Star State's hottest record, or even to be known as the hottest temperature in Texas on those days.
Over the weekend, Amarillo was surpassed by the scorching temperatures of many of the state's largest cities. Dallas clocked in with a 110 degree high on Saturday, and cities like Austin, Lubbock and El Paso were also in line with the high temperatures.
None came close to busting Texas' highest temperature ever reached. According to American Profile, the hottest temperature ever in Texas was 120 degrees. That temperature was recorded in Seymour in 1936 and was again recorded in Monahans in 1984.
