A shooting on Wednesday night that involved an Amarillo Police officer left one person dead.
According to information from APD, officers responded to the America's Best Value Inn (3930 East Interstate 40) on Wednesday night, looking for a male with a felony warrant. Officers observed a male exit a room with a handgun. The suspect attempted to conceal himself behind citizens and did not drop his gun. The man was shot by an officer and died at the scene.
Authorities later identified the suspect at Jose Luis Rodriguez, 23.
No other injuries were reported. An investigation has been launched by APD Special Crimes and the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, under normal procedure.
