City Council to Consider Zoning Change for Ex-DAI Head

The Amarillo City Council will consider voting next week to approving a zoning amendment for a property on South Polk Street.

According to information from Amarillo.gov, the City Council will vote on whether to approve a zoning amendment for a property located at 1706 South Polk. Todd and Melissa Dailey are the applicants on the property and, according to City documents, are seeking an amendment from the current Planned Development District 257 (PD-257) zoning of the property to modify existing requirements. Documents state that Dailey, who lives in Fort Worth, spoke to the Amarillo Planning and Zoning Commission about the amendment and the Commission unanimously recommended the change.

Melissa Dailey is the former executive director of Downtown Amarillo, Inc. Dailey served in the role until 2016 and was key in developing strategies for downtown revitalization. In her capacity, Dailey worked as an organizer and an activist for several downtown projects. DAI is one of several groups responsible for the creation of a downtown development plan involving a baseball stadium and convention hotel.

Also, during the meeting, Councilmembers will hear a presentation on the implementation of the NEXGEN Radio Communications System in Amarillo.

The Amarillo City Council will meet on Tuesday, July 31st in the Council Chambers of Amarillo City Hall (509 Southeast 7th Avenue). The meeting will begin at 5pm.
