Local Teacher's Organization Responds to West's Retirement

An influential local teachers’ organization responded to the retirement of Amarillo ISD superintendent Dana West in a statement this week.

On Wednesday, the Amarillo Education Association released a video statement featuring its president discussing the retirement of West and where the organization plans to go from here.

“We appreciate Dr. Dana West’s service to children in our community and appreciate working with her as superintendent over the last three years. We wish her well,” Amarillo Education Association president Aaron Phillips said in a video statement. “Moving forward, the Amarillo Education Association will continue to organize for the best possible classrooms for all students.”

“We look forward to working with the next superintendent so that we may raise AISD to its fullest potential,” Phillips said.

West, a former principal at Caprock High School, announced her retirement from Amarillo ISD this week. West was selected to become the superintendent of the district in 2015.
