Amarillo Residents Warned of DEA Scam

Amarillo Police say a new scam is targeting Amarillo residents.

According to APD, citizens have reported receiving calls from someone claiming to be with the Drug Enforcement Agency. The caller is claiming the citizens are wanted, and asks for personal information from the citizens, such as social security numbers.

APD says local DEA agents confirmed this call is a scam. No DEA agents will contact citizens about ongoing investigations and will not ask for identifying information over the phone. Authorities say if they need to speak with a citizen, they will reach the citizen in-person, instead of over the phone.

If you have any questions, you are asked to call APD’s Crime Prevention Unit at 806-378-4257.
