A brand new poll from Quinnipiac University shows one Democratic contender with a narrow lead over Republican President Donald Trump in Texas.
According to Qunnipiac’s brand new poll released Wednesday, former Vice President Joe Biden leads Trump in a hypothetical match up in Texas, 48 percent to 44 percent. The poll does not include any numbers for the Libertarian Party, which will also be eligible to place a presidential contender on the ballot in Texas in 2020.
Meanwhile, Trump holds a one point lead over Elizabeth Warren in the new state poll, while holding more sizable advantages against a variety of Democrats who are also running.
In the Democratic primary in Texas, Biden is the preferred candidate at this moment, pulling down 30 percent of support. El Paso Democrat Beto O’Rourke comes in second with 16 percent, followed by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders at 15 percent.
Also, among Democratic voters in Texas, a majority said they would like to see former Texas O’Rourke drop out of the presidential race to challenge Republican Senator John Cornyn in 2020. 58 percent of Democrats said O’Rourke should drop his 2020 bid to switch to the Senate race, while 30 percent said he should continue his bid for the White House.
