Two more candidates now have treasurer appointments filed with the City of Amarillo for possible bids for the Amarillo City Council.
Judge Richard Herman and Treva Harper filed appointments on Friday indicating they would begin raising money in connection with bids for City Council. Herman, whose term recently ended as Potter County Justice of the Peace, filed for the office of mayor. Harper, meanwhile, filed to run for the Place 2 seat on the City Council, which is currently held by Freda Powell. Powell is running for re-election.
In addition to Herman and Harper, a number of other candidates have also filed treasurer appointments. These candidates include possible mayoral contenders Claudette Smith and Tom Warren, Place 1 contender Hayden Pedigo, and Place 4 candidate Steven R. Rosas, Jr. All of the candidates, with the exception of Warren, have officially announced bids for the offices for which their appointments are active.
Candidates can file a treasurer appointment at any time. Filing for spots on the ballot, which is a different filing from the treasurer, occur for a month, beginning in mid-January. The election will be held on May 4th.
