Monique Worthy is the second Republican to officially throw her hat into the ring in hopes of replacing the retiring U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon) in Texas’ 13th District.
Worthy’s entry into the race was announced this week, as the Wichita Falls Republican becomes the second candidate behind U.S. Army veteran Vance Snider II to join the contest. Worthy, 30, is a self-described “fierce conservative” who says she became interested in politics in the 2008 election cycle and is an avid listener of conservative radio talk shows.
Along with Worthy and Snider, Democrat Greg Sagan is also running for Thornberry’s seat. Republicans Jason Brinkley and Elaine Hays are exploring bids and Republican Josh Winegarner is also weighing a bid, according to the Texas Tribune.
Candidates can begin filing for spots on the ballot in November.
