The Fort Worth City Council has approved a ground lease for the American Quarter Horse Association as the organization is eyeing a possible departure from Amarillo.
In a statement released this week, the AQHA said that as external stakeholders are raising funds for a possible relocation of the company’s headquarters to Fort Worth from Amarillo, the City Council there has approved a ground lease for possible move. The ground lease approved by Fort Worth is for 50 years with possible renewals, and would allow the AQHA to build a headquarters and museum in the city. The deal also includes a 25 percent discount in rental costs for the AQHA to host its World Championship and Youth World Championship shows in the city.
While Fort Worth has approved the ground lease, the move does not mean that AQHA has “made a definitive commitment to relocate,” according to the company.
“This is only a step in the process of the possibility of a move,” the American Quarter Horse Association said in a statement. “There is no timeline for construction or relocation, as relocation is not guaranteed at this point. It’s important to understand that a move is not imminent and there is no plan for future staffing changes.”
AQHA says it will keep its employees, board members, and members updated as the process continues to move forward.
