Applicants for Wilkinson's School Board Seat Announced

Seven individuals have put their names in the hat in hopes of replacing former Amarillo ISD school board vice president Cristy Cooper Wilkinson.

The applicants for the seat were announced on Tuesday, as the school district looks to replace Wilkinson, who recently tendered her resignation. Former Amarillo ISD Trustee John Betancourt shared the information about the applicants via social media.

According to Betancourt, the applicants are:

• Doyle Corder

• Joanne Garcia Flores

• Mark Nair

• Laurie Roybal

• Claudia Stuart

• Henry Wyckoff

• Amber White

The pool is notable, as at least two candidates have sought appointment to school board seats in one of three vacancy filings in the past two years. Also, one former elected official is an applicant, as former Amarillo City Councilman Mark Nair put his name in contention.

A replacement for Wilkinson is expected to be decided in the coming weeks.
