Billups: 'Tis (Always) the Season to be Grateful

Billups/Provided

By Kip Billups

I love this time of year. With the holidays upon us, it is a great reminder to share, to give, to love our fellow man, and of course be grateful for what we have. To encourage us to help the less fortunate.

My favorite childhood memories seem to center around this time of year.

If the past three holiday seasons are any indication, Amarillo Brown Bag Runs will see an increase in both volunteers and donations. And for that, I know they and our Invisible Friends will be delighted.

My only hope is that a few will come to awareness that our friend need us the most the rest of the year. They are like us. They need help all year round. Not only food and water, but people just to recognize them. To say hello. “What's your name? Where are you from?” To be treated as a fellow human being.

Along the same lines. Many of us will be looking to add a pet to the family, particularly around Christmas. Many of animals you might want could cost hundreds (some thousands) of dollars. Chances are you can find the same at the local shelter.

You will not only save money (it will cost far less than $100). You will literally save that dog or cats life.

Gratitude, like love, is an action word.

Seasons Greetings and Namaste!
