President Donald Trump would win Texas if the 2020 presidential election were held today, according to a brand new poll released Monday.
In the new University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll, Trump leads all of his top Democratic challengers in the Lone Star State, including one by double digits. The Democrat who comes closest to Trump in the polls released Monday is Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders who trails Trump by 5 points in Texas. Former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke trails Trump by 6 points, but has dropped out of the race. The three other candidates in the poll, Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, and Julian Castro, all trail Trump in Texas by 7 points or more.
Among Democratic primary voters, Joe Biden also leads the pack in a hypothetical Texas primary match-up, with 23 percent of support. Warren and O’Rourke rounded out the top three with 18 percent and 14 percent, respectively. Sanders was the only other candidate to receive support in the double digits.
