Sylvester Turner is heading back to Houston City Hall for four more years in office.
Turner won re-election as Houston’s mayor on Saturday night, beating attorney Tony Buzbee in a closely watched contest. With unofficial results in, Turner won 57 percent of votes cast, versus 43 percent for the outspoken attorney Buzbee.
Buzbee’s campaign spent over $8,000,000 on the challenge, narrowly keeping Turner from winning a majority of the vote in November, leading to the December runoff. However, Buzbee was unable to overcome Turner’s support among Democratic voters. Buzbee’s campaign fended off attacks over his support for President Donald Trump throughout the campaign, but he touted a a last minute endorsement from Donald Trump, Jr., son of President Trump, in a robocall.
First elected in 2015, Turner will remain the 62nd Mayor of Houston.
