U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon) voted against both articles of impeachment brought against President Donald Trump in the House of Representatives this week.
On Wednesday night, Thornberry joined House Republicans in voting against the articles of impeachment brought against Trump for alleged acts of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. No Republicans voted for the articles, which passed 230-197-1 and 229-198-1, respectively.
Thornberry’s office also released his statement for the record after the vote, in which he decried the impeachment process, calling impeachment a “partisan process” and saying the two articles of impeachment brought against Trump “do not begin to meet the constitutional standard for impeachment, even if all of the facts alleged are assumed true.”
Both articles of impeachment are now expected to head to the U.S. Senate.
