Gus Trujillo is officially on the ballot for the U.S. House of Representatives, District 13 seat.

Trujillo filed this week to run as a Democrat for the seat currently held by retiring U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon). Trujillo currently works as an office manager, according to his filing with the Texas Democratic Party and Secretary of State’s Office.

As we previously reported, Trujillo had filed with the Federal Election Commission to appoint a treasurer for his campaign, but had not formally announced.

The entry by Trujillo into the race means Democrats in the 13th District will have a contested primary for the seat. The Democratic nominee for the seat in 2018, Greg Sagan, is also running again. Rumors have circulated that at least one additional candidate will join the race.

Candidate filings will continue through December 9. Primary election day is March 3, 2020.
