Incumbents, Challengers Meet at First Candidate Forum

Nearly the entire ballot of candidates running for the Amarillo City Council was present at the first multi-candidate forum last night.

On Tuesday, the Amarillo Tea Party hosted the first challenger and incumbent forum at the First Family Church on South Bell Street. All incumbents and every challenger, with the exceptions of Richard Herman and Brad Torch, were in attendance. Candidates were given one minute to make a “non-political” speech, followed by about an hour of mingling by voters and candidates.

Tea Party president Danny South introduced the candidates and moderated the mingling. Voters also had the opportunity to meet Aaron Ladd and John Betancourt, candidates for the AISD Board of Trustees, as both were present on Tuesday night.

Amarillo is still waiting for the first forum to feature candidates posed to both incumbents and challengers. Earlier this year, the Potter-Randall Democratic Club and Indivisible Amarillo have held forums just for incumbents and challengers, respectively.

Voters will decide these races on May 4th.
