Amarillo Police are currently investigating a fatal hit and run incident that took place Sunday night in North Amarillo.
According to APD, on the evening of May 12th, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Northeast 15th on the report of an accident involving a pedestrian who had been struck while walking his dog. Officers located a 61-year-old male deceased in the road. Officers discovered the victim had been struck by at least two vehicles and both had allegedly fled the scene before officers arrived. The dog that was with the man was also found deceased at the scene.
Justice of the Peace Robert Taylor has ordered an autopsy.
This incident remains under investigation by the APD Traffic Investigation Squad. The victim’s identity is not being released, pending notification of next of kin. Officers say the man was not in a crosswalk when the collision occurred.
