State Rep. Eric Johnson and Dallas City Councilman Scott Griggs are heading to a runoff in hopes of becoming the city’s next mayor.
On Saturday, Johnson and Griggs earned their spots in a runoff to replace Mayor Mike Rawlings, winning 20 percent and 18 percent, respectively. Philanthropist Lynn McBee came in third with 14 percent, followed by builder Mike Ablon at 13 percent and school board trustee Miguel Solis at 11 percent. Regina Montoya, Jason Villalba, Albert Black and Alyson Kennedy split the remaining percentages in the race.
The results put Johnson and Griggs one step closer to taking the mayor’s office, following a bruising mayoral campaign. However, Johnson appears to have the edge in establishment backing, with former Dallas mayors Ron Kirk and Tom Leppert releasing endorsements for the State Representative this week.
The runoff will be decided on June 8th.
