Amarillo Police are investigating an accident that left one person dead on Monday morning.
According to APD, on the morning on June 17th, at around 2:20AM, officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident in the westbound lanes of 4000 west Interstate 40. A 2010 Mini Cooper, driven by Shawn Villegas, 28, had been westbound on Interstate 40. Villegas lost control of the vehicle, striking the cement wall dividing the highway, causing the vehicle to roll numerous times.
Villegas died at the scene as a result of his injuries. A 44-year-old female passenger was taken to a local area hospital with possible life-threatening injuries.
Speed and alcohol are believed to be possible factors in the crash.
This incident is under investigation by the APD Traffic Investigation Squad.
