Conservative Texas House Rep. Jonathan Stickland (R-Bedford) has announced his retirement from the state’s lower chamber.
On Monday, Stickland published an email to his supporters announcing his retirement from the Texas House of Representatives. Stickland’s announcement comes just after the end of the 86th Legislative Session, which saw the Texas Republican clash with newly-minted House Speaker Dennis Bonnen on a variety of issues.
Stickland was first elected to the Texas House in 2012, serving on a number of House committees. In 2018, Stickland won a narrow re-election over Democrat Steve Riddell, who has announced he will seek Stickland’s seat in 2020.
With the exception of Riddell, it is unclear at this time who will run to replace Stickland.
