Dallas State Senator Royce West (D-Dallas) is reportedly looking at getting into the race against Republican Senator John Cornyn.
According to the Texas Tribune, West met with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer last week as he mulls a challenge to Cornyn. West called his meeting with Schumer “positive” and is now telling the Texas Tribune that a decision on his possible bid for Cornyn’s seat could come some time within the next month.
West is not the only Democrat currently weighing a bid to challenge Cornyn. Former U.S. Congressman Chris Bell is reportedly considering a bid, as is Houston City Councilwoman Amanda Edwards. Former congressional candidate MJ Hegar, Michael Cooper, Adrian Ocegueda, and Sema Hernandez are also running for the Democratic nomination.
Outside of the Democratic Party’s race, independent Dwayne Stovall has signed on to challenge Cornyn.
