Phone Scam Targeting Canyon Residents

A new phone scam is targeting residents in the Canyon area.

According to the Canyon Police Department, officers were recently made aware that a caller is contacting Canyon residents from phone number 655-5005, claiming to be Officer Alex Rogers or Kim Jones with CPD. Both officers are fictitious, but are telling residents to empty their bank accounts and place money on plastic cards from Wal-Mart. The callers are also threatening incarceration.

The callback number provided by the scammer is 443-488-8172.

“The caller is playing on people’s emotions by threatening incarceration,” CPD said in a Facebook post. “It's all a scam.”
