GateHouse Media and Gannett will merge as part of a new deal announced this week.
The brand new $1.4 billion deal will bring publications across the country in to create the nation’s largest publication chain, with the company to take on the Gannett name. Gannett is the parent company of USA Today. According to the Austin American-Statesman, the deal will be a cash-and-stock deal that will be financed in part with new private-equity debt.
Publications impacted by the merger in Texas will include Corpus Christi Caller-Times, El Paso Times, San Angelo Standard-Times, Lubbock Avalanche-Journal, Amarillo Globe News and Sherman Herald Democrat.
