Former Vice President Joe Biden has increased his lead among Texas Democratic primary voters, as one-time rising Texas Democrat Beto O’Rourke has slipped to third place, according to a new poll released this week.
According to the new Texas Tribune-University of Texas poll released this week, Texas Democrats favor Joe Biden in a hypothetical primary months before Democrats head to the polls in March 2020. In the new poll, Biden leads with 26 percent, followed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren at 18 percent, and O’Rourke at 14 percent. Bernie Sanders also holds 12 percent in the poll, with Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, Andrew Yang, Julian Castro, and Tulsi Gabbard being the only other candidates to poll more than 2 percent in Texas.
The poll also found MJ Hegar to be leading the early race for the U.S. Senate among Democrats. In the poll, Hegar pulled in 11 percent of support, followed by Royce West at 5 percent, and Sema Hernandez and Cristina Ramirez both at 3 percent. Chris Bell, Amanda Edwards, and Michael Cooper all polled 2 percent support.
